I think the industry is only going to continue to grow.

Due to shipping costs and, quite rightly, the reduction in travel and climate needs, the requirement for distribution means that local distribution will become more crucial.

Mass shipping will be essential to localised distribution points to reduce traffic and pollution. Some industries face far greater expectations around efficiency and performance than ever before. We are seeing an increased demand for our current ventilation solutions and our Enershield Air Barriers for the logistics sector.

These technologies help a company reduce its carbon footprint, save energy, and help improve its indoor air quality.

Although increased demand for automation improves processes’ efficiency and speed, some uncertainties exist around companies adopting them.

Another sector that’s witnessing growth is cold storage. One of the challenges facing this sector is energy-saving and maintaining an internal set point temperature.

Our Enershield Air Barrier technology has already given a number of our cold storage clients the cost savings they were looking for. We plan to develop this technology further to help solve another problem of a frequently opened door in a freezer room. This solution will answer health and safety concerns, help reduce energy consumption, lean engineering, and many more.

We also want to develop the range further to feature UVGI as an option. This would mean that not only would our Enershield Air Barriers provide an industry leading seal, they would also deliver clean and safer air. The best in class UVGI is scientifically proven to kill mould and viruses when the correct dosage is applied.

We are currently working on a few sustainability initiatives in the business. In particular, one of our Enershield air barrier products will have a 15 to 1 ratio of reduction in power usage. So, for every one unit of power used to run the Enershield Air Barrier we will aim to save 15 units of power through energy reduction in heating or cooling. This will mean measuring the number of times a door is open and the differing temperature on either side, showing significant savings to be achieved.

This measuring of success of savings will also extend to our entire portfolio of indoor air quality and performance products. Meaning we will not only look to save you energy and costs, but we will also be able to maximize health benefits simultaneously.

The pandemic has created a massive shift in consumer buying behaviour.

The restrictions that were put on us all caused many to switch to buying online. And this switch also increased the demand for warehousing space.

The logistics industry has always been one of the most critical sectors. As a result, this industry is constantly looking for innovations to help them do a better job. Several recognized trends, such as artificial intelligence (AI), IoT, and autonomous vehicles, are happening. While improving the ‘last mile’ seems to be the most significant demand, so perhaps these are the most important trends – Faster and Greener. Some consumers want their product now, and others want it now but in a green mode.

Our business will have a part to play in the IoT trend. We are currently looking at how our products in the field can ‘talk’ to one centralised data centre at our head office. This will allow us to continue to offer best in-class customer service and respond faster in a greener way.

I’m sure in the years to come Electric vehicles will be on the list of trends that will shape the industry. Having a limited battery range, perhaps it would make sense to have large volumes distributed by large vehicles (hopefully using hydrogen) to then have local supply provided by electric technology.
