If we take the automated sortation industry here, we have seen a sharp increase in demand due to the pandemic. More people have gone to online ordering and this is likely to stay. We believe the need for automated sortation will continue to rise over the next few years as more companies need to handle higher volumes of products. Take the increased difficulty in finding labour as well as increased costs for labour and the step to automation starts to be more logical (and cost-effective) for many companies.

2022 is an exciting year for us. We are looking to launch a new product this year that can reduce the footprint of our sorting solutions with up to 40%. We were already offering one of the highest numbers of exits in a given floorspace in the industry, but this solution allows us to either make the sorter shorter, or offer more exits on the available footprint. This will truly revolutionise the automated sortation industry and what people thought was possible with these types of solutions. We will start rolling this product out in Q2 2022, but the first customers are already taking advantage of this solution. Next to that there will be many small new things that will help drive efficiency and improve the sortation process.

We are not launching any new sustainability initiatives in 2022, but we are continuously working on the impact of our company and products on the environment. The obvious and easy ones are the more than 600 solar panels on the roof of our production facility near Amsterdam in the Netherlands, but also our products and the way they are designed. We are using recyclable materials (our equipment is mainly manufactured with aluminium). We don’t weld our equipment so they are easy to recycle as well as remove or reposition.

There are many buzzwords going around at the moment, but certainly, there is a big step into automation and robotisation. Although only a small percentage of companies have currently automated their processes there will be a big step forward over the next few years. As mentioned before this will also be driven by labour shortages and rising labour costs. Robotics will play an important role, but this may be out of reach for companies given the (still) high costs of this. Therefore mechanisation of processes will likely be a first step for many companies and that is also where automated sortation can play a big role.
