The dependence on automation will continue to grow.  Driving this anticipated growth is the market uncertainty around labour availability, fluctuations in inventory as well as unpredictable buying habits. Manufacturing companies are readily adopting automation technologies to boost productivity and insulate themselves from peaks and valleys. In concert, automation hardware equipment must be able to provide scalability and flexibility.

In March 2022, OPEX® Corporation introduced an innovative, industry-leading goods-to-person (G2P) solution in the U.S., and this exciting new solution is launching in Europe. The Infinity™ automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) is engineered for maximum flexibility and scalability in both throughput and storage. It combines unparalleled storage density, configurability, and flexibility to meet the most pressing warehouse automation challenges for companies handling micro-fulfillment, omni-channel distribution, store replenishment, and ecommerce. Wireless Infinity iBOT® robotic vehicles are able to access all inventory and port stations, moving freely underneath and throughout the system without wasted mechanical motion, saving both time and cost. And the Infinity AS/RS is easily scalable by adding more iBOTs, presentation ports, and grids. Unlike other competitive systems, the Infinity solution offers up to 35 percent more storage capacity with bot paths that are up to 65% more efficient. The system’s flexibility also accommodates varied workflows and layouts. The Infinity AS/RS joins the existing Warehouse Automation portfolio at OPEX, which includes —the industry-leading, high-speed, small-item robotic sorting system; and a robotic G2P picking solution that dramatically improves speed, efficiency, and reliability.

Since 2012, OPEX® Corporation has derived 100 percent of its operating energy from solar power at its world headquarters in Moorestown, New Jersey, USA. This solar energy is utilized to manufacture the company’s full line of automated material handling systems. Additionally, OPEX automation systems are exceptionally energy efficient. The company’s solutions utilize wireless iBOT® robotic vehicles that are ultracapacitor powered, allowing for opportunistic charging at charge ports and on the descent through racking systems, cleanly and efficiently using stored energy.

Covid-19 has forever changed the shopping experience. Consumers are buying multiples of the same products in different sizes, and they expect them same-day or next-day delivery. The profound impact of so many packages needing to be delivered in such a short amount of time has caused companies to rethink shipping.  Many are now opening smaller warehouses closer to their customers―known as micro-fulfilment centres―with the goal of speeding up last-mile delivery time. These centres also ensure better inventory control and tracking, faster and easier returns, and reduced transportation costs. To meet both consumer demands and changing business needs, market players must continue to be flexible and scalable.
